THE
HINKLEY
POINT C
PROJECT
Following the award of the Fixed-Point Frames fabrication contract,
C-Met provided metrology inspection and verification support throughout fabrication. Using a FARO Focus 3D LiDAR scanner, multiple scans were captured to provide full coverage and accurate verification of the as-built structure.
The captured scans were processed using FARO SCENE software to produce a detailed point cloud model. The design CAD model was then accurately aligned with the point cloud, allowing precise visual and dimensional comparison between the design intent and the completed fabrication.

Project Details
Project Value: £4m
Project Duration: 10-months
Project Client: BYLOR Joint Venture
Project Scope: 3D LiDAR scanning, point cloud modelling,
CAD-to-as-built verification and dimensional inspection of
Fixed-Point Frames.
Dimensional verification was carried out throughout fabrication to identify any deviations at an early stage and confirm they remained within specified tolerances.
Minor deviations were identified but remained well within acceptable limits, providing confidence that the Fixed-Point Frames were fabricated in accordance with the approved design.
By verifying dimensions during fabrication, C-Met helped reduce the risk of issues being identified at final inspection and provided reliable quality assurance data before welding and subsequent works progressed.
The as-built verification also provided clear dimensional evidence, supporting the project team and increasing confidence in the accuracy, quality, and compliance of the completed structure.
